a very long time since I went to any conventions related to anything Japanese. My last Anime convention was in October 2008 and it was before I began my degree. The one I went to on Sunday 26th 2012 and it was the Hyper Japan event in Brompton Hall at Earls Court.Mario!

This is slightly different to an Anime Expo/Convention. It was more about the culture, dress, food and language (hence why it was rightly called Hyper Japan). But of course it was a great opportunity to advertise new released Japanese films, the latest games and to introduce new Japanese restaurants to the public. Now, where to begin…

Let’s start with the kind of stalls they had there. In no particular order (simply off the top of my head):

(A) Kimoni outfits, Gothic Lolita clothes, Japanese writing stall, anime merchandise (too many to recount all, but there were the usual clothes, plush, key rings, mugs, bags, cosplay etc).

(B) Japan Centre, BANANA with CHOCOLATE, Bento Ramen, CHOYA, CYBERCANDY, Feng Sushi, ICN Cafe, ITTENBARI, JAPAN CENTRE, KABUTO NOODLES, KOBE, MAI FOODS JAPANESE RESTAURANT, Minamoto Kitchoan, Natural Natural, Nice Ice Kakigori, On Macaroons, OWA beer, PEKO PEKO, SO Restaurant, Soya, Tofu Cute, WAGASHI / an-an, YAKULT UK

I’m into my food, especially when it’s Japanese/Chinese/Korean so this was a great opportunity for me to try Japanese food from the people themselves.

Some of the posters and stalls were filled with games.
